John T. Sulik

Associate

The majority of John’s legal career has focused on representing public employers and the unique issues the public sector faces. John focuses his practice on labor and employment matters, representing and advising employers on the day-to-day and high-stakes questions that arise in the workplace. His experience runs across union negotiations, grievances, arbitrations, unemployment hearings, and EEOC and OCRC charges – the full range of issues employers face in managing their workforces and their relationships with employees.

Much of John’s perspective comes from having sat on several sides of these matters. He served as a civil rights investigator with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, where he drafted, filed, and investigated charges of discrimination and made recommendations on case outcomes. That vantage point – understanding how a charge is evaluated by an administrative agency – informs how he counsels employers today. He later moved in-house, serving as associate counsel for a large public agency, where he acted as primary counsel for union negotiations and grievances, advised executive leadership on day-to-day employment issues, drafted policy and procedure manuals and advised the governing board on governance issues.

John takes a practical, accessible approach to his work. He guides clients through complex administrative and regulatory questions in plain terms, and he places a high value on responsiveness and keeping clients informed as their matters progress.

John earned two B.A.s from the University of Akron, where he majored in Psychology and Economics, and his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law.
